Our Lady of Sorrows Basketball program is open to all students in grades 1 through 8 and divided into the following four categories:
• The Little Crusaders Basketball Clinic is open to boys and girls in grades 1 and 2. The program is designed for children who are just learning the game of basketball. Baskets are set at a reduced height to encourage success among the children. Boys and girls will learn the basic fundamentals of the sport; dribbling, shooting and passing the basketball, as well as playing offensive and defensive positions. Children play in a non-competitive environment where the focus is on instruction, good sportsmanship and having fun.
• The Developmental Basketball Program is for students in grades 3 and 4. At this level, the children have already been introduced to the fundamentals of the game and are ready to practice their skills. Basic fundamentals and good sportsmanship continue to be stressed as well as the value of teamwork. The boys and girls participate in twice-weekly practices and instructional games on weekends.
• The Junior Varsity Teams are open to boys and girls in the 5th and 6th grade. The teams practice twice per week with 1-2 games each weekend. At this level, the play becomes more competitive. League standings are kept and there are end of season playoffs.
• Varsity Teams are for 7th and 8th grade boys and girls and follow the same format as the Junior Varsity. At the end of the season there is also an All-Star Game, made up of the top 8th graders from each school in the league.
The February Frenzy is our annual basketball tournament and runs for 10 days beginning on the Friday of President’s Weekend. This is our biggest fundraiser and the highlight of the basketball season at Our Lady of Sorrows School.
